E39

The E39 is widely regarded as one of the most important 5 Series generations, bringing a larger body, sharper handling, and a more premium interior. In the U.S., it was sold as a sedan and later as a Sport Wagon, with six-cylinder and V8 models including the 528i, 540i, and related variants. It was replaced by the E60 generation for 2004.
