2022–present G42 (G42)

2 modifications · BMW introduced the second-generation 2 Series coupe in the U.S. for 2022 on the G42 platform. This generation returned to a rear-wheel-drive coupe format and included the 230i and M240i xDrive in the U.S. market. It remains the current 2 Series coupe generation in the United States, with production still ongoing.

2020–2024 F44 (F44)

2 modifications · The 2 Series Gran Coupe joined the U.S. market for 2020 as the F44, giving BMW a front-wheel-drive-based compact four-door coupe in the 2 Series family. U.S. launch trims included the 228i xDrive Gran Coupe and M235i xDrive Gran Coupe, with the 228i xDrive continuing through 2024. This generation expanded the 2 Series nameplate beyond the traditional coupe and convertible body styles.

2017–2024 F22/F23 (F22/F23) facelift

12 modifications · For 2017, BMW revised the U.S. F22/F23 2 Series lineup with updated styling and a renamed engine range. The 228i became the 230i, and the M235i became the M240i, while the coupe and convertible body styles continued unchanged. This facelift phase remained on sale in the U.S. through 2021 for the 230i coupe and convertible, and through 2024 for the M240i coupe and xDrive coupe.

2014–2016 F22/F23 (F22/F23)

11 modifications · The first U.S.-market 2 Series arrived for 2014 as the F22 coupe and F23 convertible, replacing the 1 Series coupe and convertible in BMW’s compact rear-wheel-drive lineup. U.S. launch models included the 228i and M235i, with four-cylinder and six-cylinder power respectively. This phase established the 2 Series nameplate in the United States and ran through the 2016 model year before the 2017 update.
