2017–2019 X166 (X166) facelift
3 modifications · The facelifted X166 GLS arrived in the U.S. for the 2017 model year and continued through 2019. Mercedes updated the front and rear styling, interior technology, and model lineup while keeping the same underlying body code. This phase closed out the first-generation GLS before the all-new X167 model launched for 2020.

2017–2023 X166 (X166)
1 modification · The GLS nameplate replaced the GL-Class in the U.S. for the 2017 model year, but the vehicle itself remained the first-generation X166 architecture. It was sold in the United States as a three-row full-size luxury SUV with GLS 450, GLS 550, and AMG GLS 63 variants. This base phase covered the initial GLS launch before the 2016 facelifted update carried the model through the end of the generation.
