2013–2016 X164 (X164) facelift

4 modifications · For 2013, Mercedes-Benz updated the GL-Class with revised exterior styling, refreshed interior details, and updated engines and trim structure. The facelift kept the X164-era GL identity in the U.S. while moving the model closer to the later GLS-era design language. U.S. sales continued through 2016 before the nameplate changed.

2007–2016 X164 (X164)

7 modifications · The first-generation GL-Class debuted for 2007 as Mercedes-Benz's largest SUV, offering three-row seating and a luxury-focused alternative to traditional full-size SUVs. In the U.S., it was sold primarily as the GL450 4MATIC and GL320 CDI 4MATIC, with the GL550 4MATIC joining later in the cycle. This generation established the GL nameplate before the 2013 redesign.
