2024–2025 G05/G18 (G05/G18) facelift

3 modifications · The facelifted G05 X5 introduced updated styling and revised technology for the later part of the generation. In the U.S., the lineup shifted to xDrive40i, sDrive40i, M60i xDrive, and continued X5 M Competition availability, while the plug-in hybrid moved to the xDrive50e in later model years. This is the facelift phase currently sold new in the U.S.

2019–2023 G05/G18 (G05/G18)

9 modifications · The current BMW X5 generation debuted on the G05 platform, with the G18 name used for the long-wheelbase version in some markets. In the U.S., it launched with xDrive40i and xDrive50i, later adding xDrive45e, M50i, M, and M Competition variants, and it remains the basis for the latest X5 lineup. This row covers the original phase before the facelift.

2014–2018 F15/F85 (F15/F85)

6 modifications · The third-generation BMW X5 moved to the F15 platform for the standard model and F85 for the X5 M, bringing lighter construction and updated infotainment. U.S. sales included xDrive35i, xDrive50i, xDrive35d, and xDrive40e plug-in hybrid variants, with the X5 M continuing as the performance flagship. This is the original pre-facelift phase of the generation.

2011–2013 E70 (E70) facelift

10 modifications · The E70 facelift updated the X5’s exterior and refreshed the powertrain lineup for the later years of the second generation. U.S. models included xDrive35i, xDrive50i, xDrive35d, and the X5 M, with the facelifted version carrying the generation through the end of production. It was replaced by the F15 for 2014.

2007–2010 E70 (E70)

4 modifications · The second-generation BMW X5 E70 grew larger and added more technology, including available third-row seating and a broader engine lineup. In the U.S., it introduced xDrive30i, xDrive35i, xDrive48i, xDrive35d, and the X5 M performance model over its lifecycle. This is the original E70 phase before the facelift.

2000–2006 E53 (E53)

5 modifications · The original BMW X5 E53 launched the brand’s first X model and established the X5 as a sport-oriented luxury SUV. U.S. sales began for the 2000 model year, with inline-six, V8, and later high-performance 4.6is and 4.8is variants offered during the generation. It remained on sale until the E70 replacement arrived.
