2019–2020 I12 (I12)
1 modification · The BMW i8 Roadster joined the lineup for the 2019 model year as an open-top version of the updated i8. It shared the same plug-in hybrid hardware and LifeDrive architecture as the coupe and was sold in the United States. Production ended in 2020 alongside the coupe.

2018–2020 I12 (I12) facelift
2 modifications · The facelifted BMW i8 coupe arrived for the 2018 model year with updated styling and revised model-year positioning. It continued the same plug-in hybrid drivetrain and LifeDrive carbon-fiber/aluminum construction as the original car. This updated coupe remained available in the United States through 2020.

2014–2017 I12 (I12) facelift
1 modification · The original BMW i8 coupe debuted for the 2014 model year as a plug-in hybrid sports car with a carbon-fiber passenger cell and aluminum chassis structure. It used a turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and was sold in the United States from launch. This first phase ended before the 2018 update.
