The original Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R170 introduced the compact two-seat retractable-hardtop roadster concept and launched the nameplate in the U.S. market. It was sold with four- and six-cylinder engines, including AMG variants, and established the SLK as Mercedes-Benz's entry roadster.
