The original Ford Expedition debuted for the 1997 model year as Ford’s full-size SUV entry, sharing its truck-based architecture with the contemporary F-150. It was sold in both standard and extended-length forms and established the nameplate in the U.S. market. The first generation ended after the 2002 model year.
