2023–2024 G20/G21 (G20/G21) facelift

5 modifications · The G20 facelift is the current U.S. 3 Series phase and continues the sedan lineup with 330i, M340i, and 330e variants. BMW’s mid-cycle update kept the G20 architecture while revising styling and equipment for the later model years. This is the latest 3 Series family sold new in the United States.

25 modifications · The F30 generation launched in the U.S. for 2012 and marked a major shift in the 3 Series lineup, with the sedan, wagon, and Gran Turismo body styles split across F30, F31, and F34 codes. U.S. versions included 320i, 328i, 335i, 340i, 330e, and xDrive derivatives, and the generation received a mid-cycle facelift that updated styling and powertrain availability. 2006–2008 E90/E91/E92/E93 (E90/E91/E92/E93) facelift

31 modifications · The E90 family launched in the U.S. for 2006 and split the 3 Series into distinct sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible body codes. U.S. models included the 325i, 330i, 335i, and xDrive variants, and the generation later received a facelift that updated the front and rear styling and refreshed the powertrain lineup. The E90-era 3 Series remained on sale in the U.S. through 2013 in its final coupe and convertible forms.

1999–2001 E46 (E46) facelift

13 modifications · The E46 arrived in the U.S. for 1999 and became one of the best-known 3 Series generations, with a wide range of sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon body styles. It introduced the 330i and 330xi in the U.S. and later received a mid-cycle update that refreshed the exterior and interior while keeping the same E46 body code. U.S. production ended after the 2006 model year for the last E46 variants.

1992–1999 E36 (E36)

28 modifications · The E36 replaced the E30 in the U.S. for 1992 and brought a more modern chassis, larger dimensions, and a broader body lineup. It was sold in multiple U.S. forms including sedan, coupe, convertible, and compact hatchback derivatives, with six-cylinder and four-cylinder variants depending on model year. The generation ended in the U.S. before the E46 took over for 1999.

1984–1991 E30 (E30)

19 modifications · The E30 was the first BMW 3 Series generation sold in the United States, launching for 1984 and establishing the compact sport-sedan formula that defined the nameplate. U.S. offerings expanded over the life of the generation to include coupe, convertible, and later four-door variants, along with performance-oriented and all-wheel-drive derivatives. It ended before the E36 arrived, and it remains one of the most recognizable classic BMW generations.
