The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a new ruling aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and light trucks. The ruling, which takes effect for the 2023 model year, will require automakers to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The EPA estimates that the new standards will result in a reduction of nearly 1 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the lifetime of vehicles sold between 2023 and 2026.
