2021–2023 C167 (C167)

4 modifications · The C167 is the second-generation GLE Coupe and arrived in the U.S. for the 2021 model year. It followed the redesigned GLE SUV and continued the coupe-bodied performance and styling theme. This generation is still sold new in the U.S., so it remains in production.

9 modifications · The W167 is the second-generation GLE-Class and debuted for 2020 in the United States. It brought a new platform, larger dimensions, and a more modern interior and technology suite. This generation is still sold new in the U.S., so it remains in production.

2016–2019 W166 (W166) facelift

16 modifications · For 2016, Mercedes-Benz renamed the facelifted W166 as the GLE-Class in the United States. This phase carried over the same basic body code but introduced the GLE name, updated styling, and revised powertrain lineup. It remained on sale through the 2019 model year before the full redesign arrived.

2016–2019 C292 (C292)

5 modifications · The GLE Coupe launched as the C292 for the 2016 model year and was sold in the United States as the coupe-bodied counterpart to the GLE SUV. It shared the W166-era mechanical base and remained on sale through 2019. This first coupe generation ended before the redesign that followed for 2021.

2012–2015 W166 (W166)

8 modifications · The W166 launched as the third-generation M-Class and later became the ML-Class in U.S. naming before the GLE rename. It was sold in the United States and formed the direct predecessor to the first GLE-Class models. The original phase ran through the 2015 model year.

2006–2011 W164 (W164)

5 modifications · The second-generation M-Class moved to the W164 body and continued as a U.S.-market Mercedes-Benz SUV. It replaced the W163 with a larger, more refined design and remained on sale through the 2011 model year. This generation preceded the later ML-to-GLE rename.

1997–2005 W163 (W163)

5 modifications · The first-generation M-Class launched Mercedes-Benz into the premium midsize SUV segment and was built on the W163 platform. It was sold in the United States from the start and established the model line that later evolved into the ML-Class and then GLE-Class naming. This generation ended before the 2006 redesign.
