The W126 S-Class reached the U.S. for 1984 with the 300SD diesel and the 380SE gasoline model sharing the same body code. This was the final full-size Mercedes S-Class generation before the later 1990s redesign, and the 300SD remained one of the best-known U.S. diesel luxury sedans of the era.
