2019–2025 G29 (G29)

2 modifications · The third-generation Z4 returned to a soft-top roadster layout on the G29 platform and debuted for the 2019 model year. In the U.S., it launched with the sDrive30i and M40i variants and remains the current Z4 generation.

2013–2016 E89 (E89) facelift

3 modifications · BMW refreshed the E89 Z4 Roadster for 2013 with updated styling and revised model lineup. This facelifted phase remained on sale in the U.S. through 2016, when the second-generation Z4 ended.

2009–2012 E89 (E89)

9 modifications · The second-generation Z4 switched to the E89 chassis and a retractable hardtop roof, replacing the earlier soft-top roadster. It launched in the U.S. for the 2009 model year and introduced the sDrive naming convention.

2006–2008 E86 (E86)

2 modifications · The Z4 Coupe joined the first-generation Z4 family as a fixed-roof two-seat variant. In the U.S., it was sold for the 2006 through 2008 model years alongside the roadster and M derivatives.

1 modification · The Z4 M Coupe paired the fixed-roof E86 body with BMW M performance upgrades. It was offered in the U.S. for the 2006 through 2008 model years.

1 modification · The Z4 M Roadster was the high-performance version of the first-generation Z4 Roadster. It used BMW M hardware and was sold in the U.S. from 2006 through 2008.

9 modifications · BMW updated the E85 Z4 Roadster for the 2006 model year with revised styling and updated powertrain offerings. This facelifted phase continued in the U.S. through 2008, closing out the first-generation roadster before the next Z4 arrived.

10 modifications · The original BMW Z4 Roadster launched the model line as a two-seat soft-top roadster and reached the U.S. for the 2003 model year. It established the Z4 nameplate after the Z3 and remained the core U.S. Z4 body style through the first generation.
